It's rendered as:

The text "E and C both happen" is clipped. And it's not centered.

If I don't wrap it in \text then it will not be clipped. But still not centered

If I don't use \mathclap then it will be fine, but it adds unwanted padding

I just found that it renders fine in Firefox. I was using Chrome. It's a browser bug.
