Item numbering in projects #163603

GitHub uses a global issue/PR ID system across the entire repository — not per project or board. There's currently no built-in way to reset or override item numbering (like restarting from #1) for a specific Project or Kanban board. If you need custom identifiers per project, a workaround is to use project-specific labels or include a manual prefix (e.g., P1-001, Marketing-42) in the issue title. Not elegant, but functional. You can also submit a feature request via GitHub Feedback Discussions if this is critical to your workflow. |

Hello,
I have a Kanban board and I would like to know if there is the option to override the default numbering scheme for items on the board. There seems to be a global sequence number to for any item, independent of the project the item belongs to. I would like to restart the item numbering at #1, but I do not see this option available.
