Github Education Verification, camera making the image blurry !!

When I tried to complete my GitHub Education verification, I noticed that the camera feed becomes very blurry during the identity verification process. The image quality is so low that my ID details cannot be captured clearly, which I believe is causing my application to be rejected or delayed.

I have tested my camera in other apps, and it works fine with clear image quality, so this seems to be an issue specific to the verification process.

Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a known fix? Are there recommended settings, browsers, or devices that work best for GitHub Education verification to avoid the blur problem?

Hi,

I think it is possible to upload the image from an image file. It is not necessary to take a picture with your phone camera or webcam. I tried that and got GitHub Education in this account.

Oh i wish there was an upload image button, all there is the start camera button which opens a blurry camera, no matter the device is

Thanks for the tips! I’ve actually already tried all of those — phone capture, keeping it steady, using different documents with seals and dates — but unfortunately it still didn’t go through.

It helps to expand one of the "Denied ❌" drop-downs > and see exactly why you are failing these tests. Sometimes it can be due to missing account information. Gradually, the system will become more trusting and accept different options.

Alternatively, try using an enrollment letter or class schedule. If you need to upload files, I recommend using a PDF-to-PNG conversion service.

Also, make sure your location services are enabled and that you are submitting the requests from your campus or a similar geographic region. Use your university VPN or virtual machine if needed.

This is a known issue that multiple people keep running into. The camera module GitHub uses for document capture compresses the feed, and on many devices/browsers it picks a low
resolution regardless of your actual camera quality. Here's what actually works based on this thread and similar reports:

What works right now:

1. Upload a fee receipt or enrollment document instead of your ID card. Several people in this thread confirmed this works — select the "Proof of enrollment" option (option 2 in
   the document type dropdown) and use your current semester's fee receipt. It doesn't even need to be in English — @FacuVCanale confirmed it went through with a Spanish-format
   receipt.
2. Convert documents to PNG before uploading. If you have a PDF (enrollment letter, class schedule, fee receipt), convert it to a high-resolution PNG image first using any
   PDF-to-PNG converter. This avoids the camera entirely.
3. Use a class schedule or enrollment letter as an alternative document if you don't have a fee receipt handy.

If you still want to try the camera route:

• Use your phone's browser (Chrome on Android, Safari on iOS) — phone cameras generally produce better results than webcams
• Hold the document steady under good lighting, fill the frame
• Try Firefox if Chrome gives blurry results (different browsers request different camera resolutions)

Additional tips that help approval:

• Enable location services and submit from near your campus or use your university VPN
• Make sure your GitHub profile name matches the name on your documents
• Expand any "Denied" dropdowns on past attempts to see the specific rejection reason — sometimes it's not the image quality at all but missing account info

TL;DR — Don't fight the blurry camera. Upload a fee receipt under "Proof of enrollment" instead. That's the path of least resistance right now.
