Damn that sounds very unfortunate. I haven't experienced this but I hope you can get this solved. |

In 2022, before the Russia–Ukraine conflict began, I enrolled in an IT college in Moscow. Recently I applied for the GitHub Student Developer Pack so I could use JetBrains IDEs and other resources for my studies. Because I study almost entirely remotely, I had to travel to Moscow after several years to submit the application while I was near campus. (Yes — the student pack saves a lot of money over the years, so flying to another country was worth it.)
GitHub approved my student pack application, but then blocked me from updating my billing information, saying I had a “Russian account.”
I am not a citizen or resident of the Russian Federation. Before submitting the application I had already added billing details and a bank card from the country where I live.
I’ve made numerous attempts to contact GitHub Support, but none have worked. Every ticket — even those opened from different accounts — was ignored as soon as I mentioned my account and asked them to restore my previous billing information.
Has anyone experienced something similar and managed to get their billing information changed or reached a real person at GitHub? GitHub answered one question (whether my application was approved) after three days, but my follow-up about billing info and unblocking the account has gone unanswered since June 6.
