Student Developer Pack email already linked to old account

Hi everyone,

Hi, I’m trying to apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack with my university email.
However, I get an error saying that my email is already used for another GitHub account.

The situation is:

• My university email was first used with an older account.
• I unlinked this email from that old account.
• Now I want to use the same university email with my new account .

Is it possible to transfer the Student Pack to my new account, or release my email so I can apply again?

Hey @USMBenja,
This is a common situation. If your university email was previously linked to another GitHub account, it may take a little while for GitHub to fully release it after you unlink it. If you haven’t already, make sure the email is removed from the old account and wait at least a few hours.

If you still get errors after waiting, you should contact GitHub Education support and explain your situation. They can help you transfer eligibility or release your email for use with your new account.

Unfortunately, student benefits can't be transferred from one account to another.

It’s not possible to transfer Global Campus benefits over from one GitHub account to another.

However, you are able to merge your accounts, but the account with the benefits would be the main account. You can add your non-academic email from the previous account to the account containing the academic email. If you desire you can then rename this account once merged. For more details check out out the merging of your personal accounts documentation.

I recommend you contact support by opening a ticket here, select "Other" and ask if there's any workaround for your situation.
