Did Copilot upgrade? Can we revert? A few days ago, Copilot started breaking code. Instead of useful tweaks, it now rewrites functions and breaks or leaves out entirely the original functionality, and fixes subs by duplicating, so there are now two with the same name. This only started 7/25.

Yes you can install previous versions of Github copilot, I'm unsure exactly how to do it in vs2022 but on vs code you can go to extensions, gtihub copilot, press the uninstall arrow and you can install previous versions, like so:

I was trying to see how to do it in Visual Studio 2022 but it only lets you install or uninstall not install previous version, this only works for visual studio code from my experince

if I'm not mistaken, if you installed the GitHub Copilot Chat, you should be able to see the specific models and pick only the one that is not breaking,

as for me it's always the GPT-4.1 Agent Mode, so I don't hit the Premium Requests limit too, Claude Sonnet 4 is so powerful but is limited since it's a Premium Request, so my take is, it's only reserved for major coding tasks

Thank you for the thoughtful response — really appreciate you confirming that I’m not the only one seeing this behavior. It’s good to know it might be related to a recent backend or model update.

I’ll definitely try the suggestions you mentioned, especially switching to inline completions and toggling Copilot off/on to see if it helps reset things. I’ll also report a few specific cases to GitHub Support so they can track it on their end.
