Setting a budget amount not working

We just started with GitHub Business for using Copilot. For the moment I want to set a budget amount to keep track of any overspending of Copilot cost. I created a budget for Copilot on organization level. When I set the budget amount and click the Update budget button, the budget amount is not saved.

There might be few scenario's this isn't working.

1. UI bug / bug on GitHub’s side — looks likely.
2. Permissions issue — you might not have sufficient role (organization owner / billing manager) in the organization to make that change. (https://docs.github.com/en/copilot/how-tos/manage-and-track-spending/manage-company-spending)
3. Something about the budget type / scope you’re trying to set is not valid. Maybe the UI doesn’t allow certain combinations.
4. Caching or browser/UI session issue — sometimes settings appear unsaved due to UI problems.

What you can try,

1. Ensure you’re logged in as an Organization Owner or Billing Manager. If not, you might not have permission.
2. Check whether there is already an existing budget for Copilot that conflicts (same product or SKU, same scope). Sometimes overlapping budgets or existing budgets prevent updates.
3. Try different “budget types” — for example, create a SKU-level budget (e.g. Copilot Premium Requests) instead of a product-level one, or vice versa.
4. Try a different browser / clear cache, or use incognito mode to see if UI weirdness is interfering.
5. If your GitHub Business / Enterprise plan is recent (post some changes), there may be default budgets or policies already in place that block editing. Check the policy for “Premium request paid usage” to see if it’s enabled.
