Hi team,
I’m a Microsoft Copilot Pro+ subscriber and a hands-on technical lead working across healthcare IT. I rely heavily on Visual Studio 2022 for scalable architecture, modular app design, and refactoring workflows that align with SOLID principles.

While I appreciate the power of GPT-4-turbo in GitHub Copilot Chat, I’d love to see Claude Opus 4 integrated directly into Visual Studio. Its long-context reasoning, architectural fluency, and ability to refactor across layers would be a game-changer for deep code audits and system-wide improvements — especially for professionals like me who build reusable design systems and branded UI components.

Right now, I’m forced to copy code into the Copilot web app to access Claude’s capabilities. A unified experience inside Visual Studio would dramatically improve productivity and unlock the full potential of Copilot Pro+.
Thanks for considering this — I’d be excited to see this evolve.

As of now, there are no official Visual Studio or VS Code extensions that natively support Claude Opus 4 (from Anthropic) within the IDE. Claude models are primarily accessible via Anthropic’s own web interface, some third-party platforms, and select integrations (such as Notion, Slack, and the Copilot web app for Copilot Pro+ users).

Summary of options:

• GitHub Copilot/Copilot Chat: Only supports GPT-4/GPT-4 Turbo in VS Code and Visual Studio, not Claude.
• Anthropic Claude Web App: Direct access to Claude Opus 4, but not integrated with VS Code/VS.
• Third-party tools:
  • Some unofficial VS Code extensions claim to support Anthropic’s Claude via API keys (such as ChatGPT - Genie AI), but these are not officially supported, may not offer Opus 4, and may require your own Anthropic API key.
  • Always exercise caution with unofficial plugins and check their credibility, reviews, and privacy policies.

Current best practice:
For Claude Opus 4, the workflow you described—copying code into a web interface—is currently the only widely supported method for most developers.
