Root Cause (Why this happens)
That’s why it looks “activated” for a moment and then disappears. Confirmed Working Fix The most reliable fix (already validated in this thread): Activate using GitHub Mobile App Steps:

VS Code Not Updating (Important)

❗ Copilot Pro Trial Says “Activated” but Does NOT Actually Activate (Reverts to Free Plan)
Hi everyone,
I am facing a strange issue while trying to activate GitHub Copilot Pro free trial.
When I click “Activate now”, I get a confirmation screen that says:
“Copilot Pro trial activated”
But the problem is:
There is no trial expiry date shown
The subscription does not appear under my Copilot settings
After refreshing the page, GitHub switches back to Copilot Free
The Copilot Pro badge disappears
VS Code also still shows Upgrade and does not activate Pro
It feels like the activation succeeds only for a moment and then immediately fails or resets.
✔️ What I see step-by-step
Go to the Copilot Pro subscription page
Click Activate now
A success message appears: “Copilot Pro trial activated”
No details about trial start/end date
If I go back to:
github.com/settings/copilot
or refresh the subscription page
It shows Copilot Free, not Pro.
So the trial never actually gets saved to my account.
✔️ What I already tried
Different browsers (Chrome, Edge, Incognito mode)
Signed completely out and in again
Tried activating multiple times
Payment method is added and verified successfully
(there was a temporary hold on the card)
Still, the subscription does not activate.
My billing page does not show any active Copilot Pro trial
It only shows the message right after clicking “Activate now”
But the subscription never reflects in GitHub settings
VS Code also remains stuck on “Upgrade”
