Pull request tab badge count does not update after merge until full page refresh

On any repository page, after merging a pull request and deleting the branch,
the Pull requests tab badge count does not update when navigating within the repo.
The count only updates after a full browser refresh.

Expected: badge count decreases immediately
Actual: badge count remains stale until refresh
