I NEED a "Guangdong" regional option

Our phone area code in Guangdong is +86. I have asked the operators here, and they said that they need the official support of Github. 我想知道你们什么时候能够支持+86手机号的绑定？ || I want to know when you can support the binding of +86 mobile phone number？

Thanks so much for reaching out in GitHub's Community! If your country is not on the list, then we aren't currently able to reliably deliver text messages to your country. We track delivery rates across all countries, including ones not in the list, and review it to understand when we have to remove countries or can add them back. We do not add countries with low deliverability rates, because it leads to users being locked out of their accounts when they can’t receive the SMS for 2FA.

If GitHub doesn’t support two-factor authentication via text message for your country of residence, you must set up authentication via a TOTP application. For more information on how to configure 2FA, please review our documentation.

I ran into this before when trying to add a Chinese mobile number for 2FA. GitHub currently does not allow phone numbers with the +86 country code for SMS‑based authentication because of carrier and regulatory restrictions. The only ways to secure your account with a Chinese number are to use an authenticator app (like Google Authenticator or Authy) or a security key (U2F/WebAuthn).

If you’d like to see official +86 SMS support added, you can submit a feature request through GitHub Support: go to https://support.github.com/contact, select “Feature request”, and describe the need for a Guangdong regional option. The product team reviews those requests, but there’s no ETA yet.

In the meantime, enable 2FA via an authenticator app under Settings → Security → Two‑factor authentication. That works worldwide and doesn’t rely on SMS.
