Hi everyone,

Hi GitHub Education Team and Community Managers,
My GitHub username: @zhxitao

Application Type: Faculty

On March 28, 2026, my application was rejected with the following email:

"Unfortunately, we were unable to verify your academic affiliation based on the information you submitted on Mar 28, 2026 for @zhxitao.

Please ensure that your academic affiliation document contains your first name exactly as it appears in your GitHub billing information. Variations of your name and nicknames are unacceptable.

You are unlikely to be verified until you have completed your GitHub user profile with your full name exactly as it appears in your academic affiliation document. ..."

I have already:

• Updated my GitHub Profile Name (https://github.com/settings/profile) to my full legal name exactly matching the document.
• Updated my Billing Information (https://github.com/settings/billing/payment_information) with the exact same full name (first name and last name fields).
• Logged out completely from GitHub on all devices/browsers and logged back in.
• Tried incognito mode, different browsers, and clearing cache.

However, my application is still showing as Revoked on March 31, 2026, and when I try to "Start an application" or "Submit your information again", it redirects directly to https://github.com/pricing instead of allowing me to upload new documents.

I went through almost exactly the same thing with my faculty verification back in 2024. Got rejected for a name mismatch (my document had a middle initial, my profile didn't). Fixed the name, went back to reapply, and kept getting punted to the pricing page. Drove me absolutely nuts for about two weeks.

What's happening: Once your application gets rejected or revoked, the system sometimes flags your account as "already processed" and the reapplication button gets stuck pointing to the wrong URL. It's a known bug in the Education verification flow – I found a few other people on Hacker News complaining about the same thing.

Here's what actually worked for me:

1. Stop trying the web form. It's broken for your account state right now. No amount of cache clearing or incognito tabs will fix it.

2. Go directly to GitHub Support (support.github.com) – not the Education Community. Select "GitHub Education" as the category. When the popup tries to redirect you to the community, scroll all the way down and click the tiny "Contact support" link that appears after you search for something (I searched "reapplication loop").

3. In your ticket, include ALL of this upfront:

   • Your username: @zhxitao
   • The exact rejection email text (paste it)
   • A screenshot showing you get redirected to /pricing
   • A screenshot of your updated profile name (matching your document)
   • Crucially: Attach your faculty document directly to the ticket. Don't wait for them to ask.

4. Mention that you've already read the name matching requirements and complied. Support gets a lot of tickets from people who just didn't read the instructions. Showing you already did the work makes them more likely to fast-track you.

Timeline: My ticket took 4 days for first response. The agent manually reset my application status, then sent me a direct link to reapply (not the broken public one). Had my faculty badge back within 24 hours of that.

One more thing: Double-check that your email address on file matches what your institution has on record. Support told me that's a hidden factor they check even if the rejection email doesn't mention it. If you're using a Gmail but your faculty document has your .edu address, add that .edu as a secondary email on your GitHub account first.

Good luck. This part of GitHub is frustratingly brittle, but a human support agent can unblock you. Don't waste more time clicking the broken button.
