Summary

When using VS Code in a GitHub Codespace from Android (browser-based VS Code, not a local app), Quick Input / Command Palette-style prompts do not respond to Enter or Escape from the Android virtual keyboard.
This prevents confirming or canceling many actions that explicitly instruct “Press Enter to proceed” or “Press Escape to go back”.
This has been occurring for as long as i have been using codespaces and reproduces across multiple devices, Android versions, browsers, and virtual keyboards.

Affects

• This impacts any VS Code UI that uses the Command Palette / Quick Input prompt pattern, including (non-exhaustive):

Normal use of the command pallete
Creating new branches
Prompts from extensions to login or otherwise
Searching anything

• If the UI is a dropdown or otherwise fully tappable, it is usable. If it requires Enter/Escape, it becomes effectively blocked on Android.

How to reproduce

• Create/open a GitHub Codespace from any repository from an android phone on chrome
• Trigger a Quick Input prompt (e.g., open Command Palette, create a new branch, extension login prompt, search commits). Preferably a prompt that explicitly asks to press enter or escape
• Type anything and press Enter to confirm or Escape to cancel using the on-screen keyboard.

Expected

• Enter accepts command, Escape cancels the prompt.

Happening

• Both are bypassed and ignored.
• no onscreen alternative buttons.

What works

• Enter/Escape behave normally in other contexts, including:

renaming files
editing files
copilot chat

• Touch interactions (tapping other UI elements) work normally.

Environment

• Platform: GitHub Codespaces (VS Code in browser)
• OS: Android (multiple devices and Android versions)
• Browsers tested: Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet
• Virtual keyboards tested:

Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard
Samsung keyboard
Hacker’s Keyboard (includes dedicated Esc key; Esc works elsewhere, not in Quick Input prompts)
Other keyboards that have complete layouts

• Reproducibility: consistent across devices/browsers/keyboards.

Finally
If there is a known workaround (setting, accessibility option, alternate UI confirmation buttons, or a recommended interaction pattern for mobile), I’m open to it since currently these prompts are not operable on Android.
