Hi, I was helpfully directed here by Lili (thanks!)
Original thread
Last year, I’ve submitted a takedown request against multiple repositories forking solutions to university lab work.
There was no response or action taken by Github.
I have already contacted whichever repo owners were contactable. They took down their repos amiciably.
The ones that remain, I have no oversight on. Only Github can help at this point.
I submitted another request previously but have yet to hear a response.
I cannot wait another year for no response from Github.
Every semester, in our course of >500 students, we are able to reliably catch a couple of students plagiarizing the work in these repositories.
This is through no fault of Github, since students should know better.
Unfortunately students do not know better, either they are not technical enough to understand that we can easily catch similar submissions, or they simply believe they are above reproach.
Every academic semester that the repositories stay up means more students copying from these sources.
I am pleading with Github to plug this gap by removing taking down the offending repositories, which tempt students who do not know better into taking shortcuts, compromising their education.
I believe education is important, and I know Github as an organization does to, with all the support it provides to educational organizations.
Please help with the takedown request.
