Failed to sign in git bash

Good day

I am having a problem so I have set up the GPG key on my pc using git bash and added it to my profile but when I try and run the command git commit -S -m "The message" I get this error.

error: cannot spawn smimesign: No such file or directory
error: gpg failed to sign the data
fatal: failed to write commit object

Hope you are able to help me out on how to fix this error.
