How to stop Copilot from trying to write comments?

Any way to keep Copilot on and providing inline suggestions, but not for comments? It's very frustrating to hit ESC to reject a comment suggestion, only to have it turn around and immediately suggest something else. Completely interrupts the thought process when I'm trying to write something actually sensible.

As of my last knowledge, GitHub Copilot does not have a specific setting to disable suggestions for comments while keeping them enabled for code.

I'm pretty close to discontinuing use of it because of this. It's so distracting.

This nearly made me uninstall and give up. It's impossible to write complex comments with Copilot constantly distracting me with random nonsense as I type. It's like trying to talk with somebody shouting random things that it thinks you might say next in your ear. I did eventually find the above extension, but it's really weird that we need to install a third-party extension to disable behavior that makes Copilot unusable out of the box.

Why was the only piece of practical information in this thread flagged as "off-topic"? The VS Code extension isn't great (it edits the configuration live, which causes issues), but it's not off-topic--it's the only partial solution that exists for this right now. If you searched your way here looking for a solution like I did, be sure to expand the "marked as off topic" response.
