For Linux Patching there should be staging possible. Example - have a test, a quali and prod stage.
If a update has to be deployed, would be nice to try first in a test stage / environment. Make the needed checks, after all okay then promote to quali and so on. Comparsion to Red Hat Satellite.
In Germany the complete Deutsche Bahn stood still for hours (no trains nationwide !) because an update was buggy.
