What is the right date format ?

There is no required format — that field is free text. You can type the original publication date however reads best: August 26, 2025, September 1991, 1991, etc. It's stored verbatim and shown as-is.

The (Italian format) note in the helper was misleading (and the translations had drifted — the French one even said "format français"). Fixed in #202: the helper now reads "Original publication date (free text)", and the placeholder already shows a localized example.

If you want a structured / sortable value, use the separate Publication Year field (anno_pubblicazione, an integer) right next to it — that's what the catalog actually sorts and filters on (year-range filters, facets). The free-text field just preserves the full human-readable form (useful for imprecise or historical dates like "circa 1850" / "sec. XV"). For dates that are genuinely calendar dates, e.g. Acquisition date, the form already uses a native type="date" picker.

The publication-date field (data_pubblicazione) is free text — there is no required format. Enter the date however it appears on the book ("August 2025", "2025", "26/08/2025", …); it is stored and shown as-is, not parsed or validated.

The confusion came from the field's help text, which used to say "Italian format" — misleading on non-Italian installs. As of v0.7.25 the label reads "Publication date (free text)" and is translated in every locale (#202).

Could you update to 0.7.25 and confirm the field now reads/behaves as expected on your install?
