Re-opening since the original request (#69265) was closed as stale.

Bluesky has been open to the public for quite some time at this point, and mass-migration like this continues to happen as Twitter---sorry, X---gets more and more plagued by spam accounts and low-quality engagement-grabbing tweets---sorry again, posts---just looking for advertisement revenue.

The official logo is available on Google Drive which is linked in their official Bluesky for Journalists page.

Please consider adding Bluesky icon to the profile page.

My guess is that you would have to create an issue on the Bluesky repository instead requesting on this?
But GitHub can't change other peoples things, and I'm not completely sure what you're asking.

The Bluesky link icon and short handle shall be displayed in GitHub. Where else would you suggest asking for this?

I'm requesting for the icon displayed under your GitHub Bio, specifically a feature that detects if the given URL links to a Bluesky profile.

You know when you enter social accounts in your profile, the icon stays chain until your Instagram URL is complete, then it changes to Instagram logo? Basically that, but for Bluesky.

This must be implemented by GitHub, and user identification method is already well-defined in AT protocol.

Not sure how Mastodon detection is handled here (I haven't really analyzed it, but it doesn't seem like a simple RegEx match), but detecting Bluesky account should be trivial.

Implementation note: the AT Protocol's handle resolution spec looks pretty interesting. It defines two different methods to check if the given URL is a Bluesky handle:

1. DNS TXT method, where _atproto.entered-url.tld resolves to the user's DID text value;
2. HTTPS well-known method, where https://entered-url.tld/.well-known/atproto-did resolves to the user's DID text value.

I believe further verification of the returned DID is unnecessary, though. As long as the DID looks normal (read: matches the DID RegEx), it's good to go and display Bluesky icon.

I'd just take this URL and extract the handle from it and change the icon: https://bsky.app/profile/ygoe.de I added this to my profile and I'd simply expect the icon to change to the butterfly and the text to only the handle (domain name).

That sounds like a much cleaner solution. It's a social link, so you don't just write your handle anyway...

Even more reason to support it since it got much more trivial!

With the recent influx of users on Bluesky after Twitter's change in their TOS, now is a MUCH better time than ever to implement this feature!

Great. Needed to re-save my profile though to make it appear. Having the profile URL added before won't show it. So I guess a data migration is missing somewhere.

Confirmed working! You have to re-enter the whole https://bsky.app/profile/<handle> URL from scratch to have the profile icon properly updated. Marking this as solved now!
