VS Code copilot extension always sign in via GHE

I am on a personal laptop and personal Github account.
I have just installed Copilot extension and would like to sign in using my Github personal account, however I'm consistently getting the error "Failed to sign in to GHE.com".

As I understand, GHE is for the enterprise organization but I am on a personal account.
There is a drop-down menu on Copilot prompt to sign in with a Github account, yet it still goes to GHE

I had the same issue, personal account but forced me to sign-in with GHE
Managed the fix this problem on my side, here's how

1. In the vscode settings, search for copilot, and under Github > Copilot: Advanced, click Edit in settings.json
2. Inside the github.copilot.advanced, remove `"authProvider": "github-enterprise"

thanks for the suggestion but my VSCode is still trying to authenticate with GHE also after removing the GHE authProvider:

I found the problem. The previous screenshot doesn't have anything to do with Copilot but weirdly it came out.
The problem was that in the attempt to fix the GHE problem I disabled this extension:

That is an built-in extension. Re-enabled and now I can login correctly.

i met this problem several days ago, and solved according to @mmedved6-kz , but by just adding this this block in setting.json:
"github.copilot.advanced": {
"authProvider": "github"
}

All you have to do is restart VSCode after making the changes

This worked for me. Be sure to note that this is the settings.json for the Profile that you are using. Most times that will be the default Profile. So go to File / Preferences / Profile and then click "Settings".
