Cannot setup metered billing via Azure #153401
-
Select Topic AreaQuestion BodyWhen I try to setup a metered billing via Azure, it prompts me to an azure login page, but when I try to login our azure account, it says "This username may be incorrect. Make sure you typed it correctly. Otherwise, contact your admin." I am sure it is correct because we previous setup it as our GitHub Enterprise metered billing source. |

Hi @rabbitism 👋 That error message typically appears when Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) doesn’t recognize the username or you’re attempting to sign into the wrong tenant/subscription. Even if you previously used this account for GitHub Enterprise metered billing, a few things could have changed on the Azure side that cause the sign-in to fail now. Below are some troubleshooting steps: 1. Confirm the Correct Azure AD Tenant
2. Verify the User Exists in Azure ADIf you can access the Azure Portal (with a different admin account), go to Azure Active Directory → Users. Make sure the exact username (UPN) you’re using is listed. Possible issues:
3. Check for Personal Microsoft Account vs. Work/School AccountIf you have an email that can be both a Microsoft personal account and an Azure AD account, Azure sign-in can get confused. Sometimes, if your email was only associated with a personal Microsoft account (and not an organizational Azure AD tenant), you’ll see that error. Ensure you’re using the organizational credentials that belong to your Azure AD tenant. 4. Confirm GitHub Enterprise ConfigurationIf you’re setting up GitHub Enterprise metered billing again:
5. Contact Your Azure AD Admin or Microsoft SupportIf you’re certain you have the correct username (and domain) and it still fails, an Azure AD admin in your organization might need to:
Summary
Once your Azure AD login is recognized again, you should be able to link or re-link the metered billing source for your GitHub Enterprise account without issue. |
