Yeah, free proxies can be kind of risky from a security point of view. Sometimes those free proxy servers are poorly maintained or even set up by people with bad intentions, so there’s a chance your system or data could get exposed to viruses or be tracked. I remember trying free proxies for a school assignment and my browser started acting weird and slow, so I ditched them quick after a few sketchy experiences. Now, whenever I need proxies for scraping or similar stuff, I stick to proper paid or trusted services instead because there’s less chance of your info being sniffed or messed with. Learned about a bunch of these safer options while reading up on web crawling tech through CrawlBase, which has pretty solid details on staying secure. |

Yes, using proxies is standard practice for scraping, especially for something like cross-site price comparison. But they’re not a silver bullet. You’re basically shifting the “block risk” from your own IP to the proxy IP pool. If your request patterns look bot-like, you’ll still get flagged. For your use case, think in terms of architecture: 1. Proxy type
2. Request strategy (more important than proxies)
3. Failure handling
4. Scaling pattern
5. Basic Python example (requests + proxy): import requests Providers: Reality check:
Proxies are just one layer. Your scraper design is what actually determines whether it survives. |

Are Proxies Safe for Web Scraping?
Yes, if used correctly → Proxies can protect your identity and prevent IP bans.
No, if misused → Some websites have strict policies against scraping, and violating them could lead to legal consequences.
Types of Proxies You Can Use
Datacenter Proxies – Fast but easily detectable
Residential Proxies – Harder to block, but costly
Rotating Proxies – Automatically switch IPs to avoid bans
Free Proxies – Risky, slow, and often unreliable
Where to Get Proxies?
Paid Services (Recommended) → Bright Data, Oxylabs, Smartproxy
Free Proxies (Risky) → ProxyScrape, FreeProxyList
Self-Hosted Proxies → Set up your own proxy servers with a VPN
