Copilot Pro+ Blocking Premium Models Immediately After Subscription!!! Usage Limit Bug #161595

Select Topic AreaBug Copilot Feature AreaGeneral BodyHi GitHub Team, I just subscribed to GitHub Copilot Pro+ (US$ 39/month) and I'm already facing a major issue. After only a couple of interactions with Claude Sonnet 4, I received the warning:
This makes no sense, considering:
It feels like my account didn't properly reset or initialize the premium quota (1,500 requests/month). I've checked all settings, removed budgets, reviewed every possible cause still blocked. I also found this discussion with the exact same issue: Please escalate this bug. We're paying for premium features that are currently unusable. Thanks in advance. |

they should just cancel this change and revert to having Pro and Enterprise. A new tier is unnecessary and just plain overpriced for how little you get for 40$ |

yeah has been going on for over a week for me, how hard really?? I mean the dev base is fickle, we will find alternatives and you will loose millions of devs you just wont get back when then find and alternate. |

This change is designed to give you more transparency and control over your premium Copilot usage. What’s changed?The monthly allowance of premium requests per user is now enforced for Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise plans. Premium requests unlock a selection of advanced AI models and features—usage varies by model. What’s unchanged?All paid plans still include unlimited use of GPT-4.1 and GPT-4o for agent mode and chat interactions, plus unlimited code completions! No amount of explaining the reason why is going to fix the actual issues Akash. How about instead of getting technical, you get to work and fix your horrible product. You already lost me as a Copilot customer, but there might still be a chance to keep the few remaining customers you have. |

I think I fixed the issue just enabling the premium requests budget. It
says I haven't spent any premium request, but enabling the budget did work
for me.

For those of us that purchased Pro via the iOS app, this does not work. We are met with an error that says we must use the app store to manage subscriptions in the budget center, and these settings are not available in the Apple App Store. |

I had same issue, it got fixed after sometime. I reinstalled everything then logged back in and boom i can access all models |

Yeah I have tried reinstalling and logging out, with no luck.
just got a reply from support saying they have reinstated my quota,
hopefully by the time I get home I will see it fixed.

believe me guys I shifted to cursor and it's amazing much better that github copilot , no matter how big modal I use in github copilot it's still not able to to edit any simple frontend file if edit give syntax errors but not the case in cursor to the poin and amazing |

Github Copilot Pro+ has reached its rate limit of 18%, which is equivalent to ~270 requests, just like in the Pro plan. Here's the same situation If even Microsoft is forced to cut limits due to current "agentic" models, what will happen when Claude becomes truly agentic and performs tasks on tens of millions of tokens? |

I have enabled the "Additional paid premium requests". When I select Claude Sonnet 4 and send it a prompt, it switches to GPT 4.1 saying I need to enable Additonal paid premium requests. This should be a HIGH urgency issue for the team because you're losing money and customers with every moment you delay. |

You can temporarily get around this problem and use your premium requests - assuming you have a budget set up - by doing this:
You will need to do this every time you make a request, but you get pretty quick at doing it and it's better than not having access to the premium models at all. I've sent a request to support to see if they'll refresh my cache for a permanent fix. |

I agree that I shoudn't have to, and it's really f*****g annoying, but it only takes about 5 seconds each time in reality. Cursor is $20 for ~225 premium requests and Copilot is $10 for 300, so its more than twice as expensive. I'll stick with the workaround for now. |

Despite all of this, the usage bar is still stuck at 100% and Claude Sonnet 4.6 remains inaccessible. VS Code automatically falls back to GPT-4.1.

You need to change your subscription, either upgrade or degrade it, then it
works again.

Not your budget, you need to change your subscription from pro to normal,
or from normal to pro, then come back again. It is a bug I went through
the same.

I cant send you the link. You have to go inside your github account and
then to copilot billing/settings.
