Previously, I was a member of a Github organization which had provided Copilot license and associated with my Github account.

I am no longer a member of that organization but I would still like to use Copilot.

When I open VS Code it seems to attempt to still use the enterprise credentials and blocks use of Copilot entirely.

I have seen other related posts:

I have tried the following:

1. Signing out of Github and signing back in
   

2. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Copilot extension

3. Deleting the AppData/Roaming/Code directory

4. Uninstalling and reinstalling VSCode

After all that, I still get similar messages

Questions

• Perhaps this is an issue with my Github account not being fully separated from the org or enterprise?
• Is there anything else I should do to completely reset Copilot?

You're stuck because VS Code is still trying to use your old Copilot license from a company/org you're no longer part of. Even though you've signed out, there’s probably some leftover auth tokens messing things up.

1. Revoke Copilot access on GitHub
   Go to: https://github.com/settings/applications

• Under both OAuth Apps and GitHub Apps, remove anything related to:
• GitHub Copilot
• Your old organization

2. Clear Copilot state in VS Code

Open the Command Palette in VS Code and run:

• GitHub: Sign out
• GitHub: Clear authentication sessions
• Copilot: Reset Copilot service state

Then, manually delete the local Copilot state:

On Linux/macOS:

rm -rf ~/.config/Code/User/globalStorage/github.copilot

I have tried to complete the steps that I could from your list but most of the actions suggested were not valid in my version of VS Code.

I see 3 tabs on the applications link you sent. I removed the Authorized GitHub app for Copilot, but I didn't see any other apps related to copilot or the Org.

I did not have a "GitHub: SignOut" action, but I was doing it from Accounts menu

I did not have a "clear authentication sessions" or "Reset Copilot service state"

Also, I use Window 11 on host machine and usually work in .devcontainers which is why it made seem like linux.

It seems Copilot locally doesn't complain about the enterprise or org revoke, but still is unauthorized to get a token.

I tried clearing
~.vscode\extensions\github.copilot-chat-0.27.3
But I didn't have a ~/.config/code directory.

It seems something is still not cleared.

I was suspicious about the "revoked certificate" messages and thought perhaps I need to clear them manually.
I don't understand why VS Code is knowing anything about the old org or even complaining about being revoked after I have uninstalled and reinstalled.

Exact same issue I have, nothing worked. Now I cannot login to Github copilot, doesnt open the login screen at all.

I also facing the same issue and ask my org admin they says because org is paying copilot monthly, so you will need to wait until next month...
Because I already got removed from org, so I don't have access to org copilot, and because my copilot is bind to org license, so I also can not switch to my personal license...

I'm not sure I follow. I wanted to rephrase and make some statements based on what you said to make sure I understand. Please correct me if wrong

• This is not a VSCode issue with retaining extension cache, certificate, licenses etc, it is an issue with the Copilot license associated with the GitHub account
• The Copilot license associated with the GitHub account is still using the enterprise or org; however, because you are not a member of the org this will result in the 403 (Unauthorized) as seen on the logs when attempting to fetch token
• The Copilot license associated with the account is only updated at the end of the month (You suspect because of billing cycle)

Does this mean we might expect next month, July 1st, the Copilot license associated with my GitHub account will reset/revert back to the default Personal instead of the Enterprise and I regain the ability to use the feature?

It seems there is some artificial constraint of only updating Copilot license on monthly cycles because of billing which could be optimized. 😔
As soon as I am removed from the org and that Copilot is no longer usable, I would think I should be able to choose to downgrade immediately.

I think even if this is technically challenging, they could prevent the confusion by making it more transparent which license your Copilot is using and perhaps showing a diagram/graph of how the license will change over time.

Yes, you are correct.

So yesterday I opened a GitHub support ticket for this issue, and they just fixed my license issue, and says they are working on this problem.

Maybe you can try to fire a support ticket too.

From the timing of your posts, I sounded like your ticket was completed within a day or very quickly.
My ticket has been open since last week with no response.
