Verified Custom Domain not released and still being squatted/hijacked

Hi everyone,

I'm encountering an issue with our custom domain. Although we have successfully verified the domain following the steps in the GitHub documentation, it appears that the domain is still squatted (showing a copy of espn.com) and has not been released as expected.

The documentation says :

Similarly, when you verify a custom domain for your organization, only repositories owned by that organization may be used to publish a GitHub Pages site to the verified custom domain or the domain's immediate subdomains.

I have already reached out to GitHub Support regarding this issue, but unfortunately, no resolution has been provided. I'm hoping that someone in the community might have experienced a similar issue or could offer some advice on how to proceed.

Has anyone else faced this problem, and if so, were you able to resolve it? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My bad we verified it under Organization > Settings > Verified and approved domain and not under Organization > Settings > Pages

GitHub should add a warning note in the docs to prevent this confusion.
