I have deleted my github repo on 16th of july 2025, Now I want to restore this repo, but not getting the restore option for this repo.

So if any body can, guide me to do this.

Unfortunately, once a repository is permanently deleted from GitHub, it cannot be restored after a certain grace period. As of now, GitHub allows a 7-day window after deletion during which you can restore the repository from the "Deleted Repositories" section in your account settings.

Since you deleted the repo on July 16, 2025, and it's now beyond that 7-day window, the restore option will no longer be available — which is why you're not seeing it.

🛠️ What you can try:

• Check local backups or clones: If you had the repository cloned locally or pushed to another remote (e.g., GitLab, Bitbucket), you can re-create the repo on GitHub and push your code back up.

• Check GitHub's cached copies: If your repo was public, you might find a cached version on services like:

  • Google Cache
  • Wayback Machine

  (Only useful for viewing, not restoring Git history.)

• Contact GitHub Support: While there's no guarantee, you can try reaching out to GitHub Support to see if there's any possibility of recovery — especially if it contained critical data and was recently deleted and explain your condition to them.

1. Check if it’s still in GitHub’s recovery window
   When you delete a repository via GitHub’s website, it is soft-deleted for a short period (usually 90 days for private repos if you’re on paid plans; public repos may be gone instantly unless backed up).
   To check:
   Go to GitHub → Settings → Repositories (for your account or organization).
   Look for a section like "Recently Deleted Repositories" or check your email inbox for a “Repository deleted” message; GitHub often includes a restore link in that email.
   If the restore link is available, click it to restore the repo instantly.
2. If recovery window has passed (or no restore link)
   If you still have a local copy of the repo on your machine:
   Create a new repository on GitHub with the same or a new name.
   In your local repo folder, run:

------"git remote set-url origin https://github.com/USERNAME/NEW_REPO_NAME.git
git push origin main"------

(Replace main with your branch name if different.)

Hi,

GitHub only allows a deleted repository to be restored within 90 days of deletion, and only if it was a private repository owned by a user or organization that still exists. Public repositories and forks cannot be restored once deleted.

If you deleted your repo on July 16, 2025, you should see a “Restore” option under:
👉 Settings > Repositories > Deleted repositories (in your account or organization settings).

If the option is not available, it usually means one of the following:

• The repository type (public/fork) is not eligible for restore.
• The repo was permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

In that case, the only alternative is to recreate the repository and push your local copy (if you have one) back to GitHub.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to restore a deleted repository, depending on whether it belonged to a personal account or an organization:

Important Notes Before Starting
Time Limit: Repositories can usually be restored within 90 days of deletion. After 90 days, they are permanently purged.

Permissions: You must be the repository owner or have the appropriate administrative permissions in the organization to perform a restore.

Restoration Caveats: Restoring a repository will not restore release attachments or team permissions.

Method 1: Restoring a Repository Owned by a Personal Account
Go to Settings: In the upper-right corner of any page on GitHub, click your profile picture, then click Settings.

Find Repositories: In the left sidebar, click Repositories (or sometimes found under "Code, planning, and automation").

View Deleted Repositories: Under the "Repositories" section, click Deleted repositories.

Restore:

Locate the repository you wish to restore in the list.
