Claude Sonnet 4 model is not appearing in the GitHub Copilot agent list despite my Pro subscription

I am experiencing an issue with my GitHub Copilot Pro subscription, as Claude Sonnet 4 model is not appearing in the list of available agents.

Issue Description:
Despite my active GitHub Copilot Pro subscription, I cannot see or select Claude Sonnet 4 model in the agent selection list. The other models appear normally, but Claude Sonnet 4 model is not listed.

Steps I've already tried:

Log out and log back in to my GitHub account
Clear your browser cache and cookies
Try different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
Check your subscription status - make sure Pro is activated
Ensure you're using the latest browser version
Expected Behavior:
As a Pro subscriber, I expect to access all premium versions, including Claude Sonnet 4, from the agent selection menu.

Actual Behavior:
Claude Sonnet 4 model do not appear in the dropdown list of available agents.

did you check this in your Settings ? that must be enabled, and sometimes, one Org controls it, you must ask them to enable it for you, check that exactly on the link shown below

so it's in VSCode ? did you install the GitHub Copilot Chat in the Extension ? and I noticed you are from China, so you use like VPN ? I'm not sure if it can affect it or even a delay

Yes it is not working in VSCode. I have already installed the GitHub Copilot Chat(0.32.2025091902) in the Extension and I am using VPN. I notice that it's working in github.com.

that's nice to see it's working on GitHub itself, so it seems it's in VSCode that's problematic

are you using CodeSpaces? maybe you can check if it's working in there too, install same extension, if it appears in there then the local VSCode is the only problem

did you try re installing the local VSCode?

Hi, I’m experiencing the same issue.

On my local Windows machine with VSCode (stable) I can still see and use Claude Sonnet 4 in Copilot.

But when I use VSCode Insider or VSCode (stable) with Remote-SSH to connect to a remote Linux server, Claude Sonnet 4 no longer appears in the “Manage Language Models” list.

Yesterday it was available in both environments, but today it has disappeared from the Remote-SSH sessions (even though it is still marked Enabled in my GitHub Copilot settings).

It looks like the rollout of Anthropic models is inconsistent between environments, and sometimes features are available one day and gone the next. Could you clarify if this is expected behavior (due to staged rollout), or if it’s a bug affecting Remote-SSH / Insider builds?

Do you live in China? It seems that VPN is required to use Claudee models in GH Copilot, I guess your local machine (the Windows one) already have a usable VPN server taking over the global network traffic, including Github. However on the remote machine, your http proxy is not available or not taking over the system's routing, but the Copilot extension must run on remote machine in SSH case, that's what happened on my environment...

So please try checking the http proxy setting of your SSH remote -- just open VSC Settings, and check whether the http_proxy field is correctly configured under Remote [SSH:your-machine] tab. But if you doesn't live in China, or already confirm the network is well, please ignore me. :)

Also cc to @liuliangsir , I think the case on you is basically the same -- If you live in China, please check the VPN (proxies) availability and the http_proxy filed in VSC settings.

Thanks so much for your help! I saw a similar solution was provided in the GitHub issue. After configuring the HTTP proxy setting in VS Code's Remote SSH settings, the Claude models are now working perfectly.
