Hi! Even though my account was created long time ago, I didn't do anything with it and also did not understand a bit, when I started exploring it several days ago. Tbh, I was really lost, but for some reason was ignoring the official documentation from github. Surprisingly, it turned out to be very helpful! my first goals were to understand how repositories works and then design my profile beautifully. So, I managed both of them! In my opinion for repositories it is really helpful to read an official documentation -> https://docs.github.com/en/get-started/start-your-journey , this part about repositories, branches, etc -> https://docs.github.com/en/get-started/start-your-journey/hello-world
