You don’t have to apply for badges on GitHub. They’re earned automatically when you do specific things on the platform. To earn badges (achievements) on GitHub, you must perform specific contribution and community actions on the platform. The most common ones include the Pull Shark, earned by having at least two Pull Requests merged; Galaxy Brain, for those who have answers marked as accepted in GitHub Discussions; Starstruck, achieved when one of your repositories reaches 16 stars; and Quickdraw, for closing an issue or PR within 5 minutes of it being opened. Other achievements include Pair Extraordinaire, for co-authoring a commit, YOLO, for merging a PR without a code review, and Public Sponsor, for publicly sponsoring a developer through GitHub Sponsors. There are also status badges like GitHub Pro (via a paid subscription or Student Developer Pack) and the Arctic Code Vault Contributor, which was a one-time award for those who contributed to projects archived in the Arctic in 2020. To ensure your actions count toward these badges, make sure to enable the option to include private contributions in your profile settings, as activity in private repositories is hidden by default. 🦈 Pull Shark Have at least 2 Pull Requests merged into a repository (yours or someone else's). |
