gpt 5.3 codex is not seen in my copilot

I see that gpt 5.3 was out in GHCP but still i cant find it anywhere. what would be the issue? i even tried to update the VSCode.

A few things to check:

Make sure your Copilot subscription/plan supports that model

Sign out and sign back into GitHub in VS Code

Check Copilot → Model selection (if available for your account)

Updating VS Code alone won’t force access — once the rollout reaches your account, it should appear automatically.

Same here, I got Pro + subscription and I saw Codex 5.3 show up yesterday , tried it, never worked, then it went away and never came back ... annoying af

Hmm but thats weird because Codex 5.3 is available no on Cursor and many other AI IDE ... so Copilot should have it too tho...

This has very little to do with professionalism. GitHub officially announced that the model was available, only to remove it from the selection again shortly afterwards without providing any proper explanation. There was no clear communication about what happened, nor any indication of when it might become available again. This behavior is highly unprofessional and frankly rather amateurish.

It works better on Cursor anyway because you can choose the reasoning effort whereas Copilot locks you to a token limit and I believe medium reasoning, but you can also use the Codex extension in VS Code to do that. I used to sing Copilot's praises until I tried Opus 4.5 on Windsurf and it was like a totally different model from 4.5 on Copilot.

You can set the reasoning effort in copilot too, it's just hidden in the github.copilot.chat.responsesApiReasoningEffort setting.

My understanding from the opencode team is that github has not enabled 5.3 for opencode's copilot "client id", which is why the model hasn't been added as an option yet. In other words, this is something the copilot team must enable.
