Why does my webhook feel ignored? 😭

Hi everyone,

So I made a webhook. It exists. It looks fine. It has a URL. It has events selected. It even says “active”.

But… nothing happens.

I push code. Nothing.
I open issues. Nothing.
I stare at it. Still nothing.

Is there a secret ritual I need to perform?
Do webhooks require emotional support before they start working?

Also, what exactly is a payload and why does it sound important but never show up when I need it?

Ah yes, classic webhook behavior.

Have you tried turning your webhook off and on again? Sometimes they just need a small nap.

Also make sure:

• Your URL actually exists (webhooks dislike imaginary servers)
• Your server is not hiding behind a firewall pretending it’s busy
• You clicked “Save” and didn’t just emotionally commit to it

If it still doesn’t work, try pushing code harder. Sometimes they respond to confidence.

Worst case, whisper “deliver payload” three times while refreshing the page.

That usually doesn’t fix it, but it feels productive.

This usually indicates a connectivity or configuration error.

1. Check Recent Deliveries
   Navigate to the Recent Deliveries tab at the bottom of your webhook settings. This log displays every attempt GitHub made to contact your URL. Red icons indicate failure; click on an entry to see the specific HTTP error code and response.

2. Verify the URL
   If your URL is localhost, GitHub cannot reach it. You must use a public URL or a tunneling service to expose your local server to the internet.

3. Understanding the Payload
   The payload is the data GitHub sends to your URL when an event occurs. It is a JSON object containing details about the activity, such as the commit message, branch name, and user information.
