I have GitHub Copilot Student active on my account, and Copilot was working normally in my projects (I was using Sonnet 4.6).

Suddenly, most of the models disappeared. Some models now show the message "Contact your admin" next to them.

As shown in the screenshot, the Claude models are no longer displayed.

This started happening about 2 hours ago. Before that, everything was working normally.

I am using a personal account (not part of any organization), so I should not have an admin restriction.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Unfortunately they decided to cut off these more advanced models from the GitHub Copilot Student tier.

Buddy Read the release by Github today.

They've discontinued Sonnet, Opus and GPT 5.4 for all of us in the student plan

Same for me, I'm on the 10$ paid plan and was using GPT-5.4 until yesterday. This morning it is not available anymore

FIX FOR NON-STUDENTS (HOW I FIXED MINE ANYWAY):

1. Click the blue 'Contact Admin' link in VS code (where you would normally select your model).
2. Navigate to the Code, planning and automation > Copilot > Coding Agent section
3. Enable the partner agents that have the model(s) you want to use (Allow Claude coding agent, or Allow Codex coding agent).
4. Restart VS code so that it refreshes its connection with Github.

I'm facing same issue. I could see claude sonnet 4.6 and opus 4.6 last Friday.

By the way, I'm using the Github colipot pro trial for 30 days plan, not the student plan.

Seems like they were removed from the 10$ Plan as well and are only available n the 39$ anymore, because they are Advertising Claude Opus 4.6 in 39$ Plan...
That sucks...

I don't have that option with Claude and I want to use GPT-5.4, it was way better than Claude from my experience

what i did to make opus 4.6 available in regular chat - switch to Claude as @kubilayagusta said, ask it smth (it gave me error somehow), then choose the old session where Opus 4.6 was used, then create a new chat - opus 4.6 should be available in a list

Hi folks!
Not sure if this would work for everyone but you can try these steps:

Method 1

Step 1: Click the Local dropdown.

Step 2: Select Claude.

Step 3: Open the model picker.

Verify if you see Claude's models now.

Method 2

Step 1: Install Copilot CLI for your OS.

Step 2: Click on Local dropdown and select Copilot CLI.

Step 3: Open the model picker.

Verify if you see additional models.

This has been working for me both in VS Code and VS Code Insiders.
