As the title suggests, I received a request from GitHub today asking me to re-verify my student status. I am currently gathering the necessary materials, and I am wondering if my student discount period will be refreshed to 2 years.

When you successfully complete the re-verification process, your GitHub Student Developer Pack benefits are completely refreshed and extended for another full term (which is 2 years from the date your new application is approved).

As long as you are still an active, enrolled student and can provide valid proof, you can keep re-verifying and renewing the pack every time it expires until you finally graduate.

A quick tip for a smooth re-verification:

• Dates matter: Make sure the ID card or document you upload clearly shows a date for the current academic year. If your ID doesn't have a date, use a recent transcript or enrollment letter instead.
• Location matters: Ensure your browser's location services are turned on and match the physical location of your university. Turn off any VPNs before applying, as GitHub's automated system checks your IP address against your school's location!

Thank you for your reply. I have another question. For non-English documents (I'm in China), how should I verify them? My computer can't upload images via webpage, which prevents me from translating them and uploading directly. My previous solution was to translate the image and then use another device to display and photograph it. Is there an easier way?

Glad that helped! Regarding your second question, since you are having trouble with the webpage upload and have non-English documents, there is actually a much easier way:

Use the GitHub Mobile App
Instead of using a computer, install the GitHub app on your phone. The mobile app is often much more reliable for the Education application because:

1. Direct Camera Access: You can use your phone's camera to take a high-quality, live photo of your document.
2. Easy Translation: You can simply place your English translation (even if it's hand-written on a piece of paper) next to your original Chinese document on a desk and take one clear photo of both together.
3. Better Location Sync: The app uses your phone's GPS, which helps GitHub verify you are actually at your school in China, making the approval much faster.

If you still can't upload directly:
Since you mentioned your computer has trouble uploading, another "pro-tip" is to use the "Photo of a Screen" method only as a last resort. GitHub’s bot often rejects photos of screens because of the "moire pattern" (the lines you see on a digital screen).

If you must use a second device:

• Make sure the screen brightness is high.
• Ensure there is no glare on the screen.
• Most importantly, make sure the Official School Seal and Date are perfectly readable in the photo.

Give the mobile app a try first—it usually solves the upload and translation issues in one go!
